Susan Starr serves as Minister of Music and Finance. She became a member of Our
Lord's in 1982, became the Adult Choir Director in 1987 and Director of Music
and Organist in 1995 and added financial responsibilities in 2000.
Susan was born and raised in Milwaukee and has been a Methodist all her life.
She received her degree in Music Education from Ripon College in 1971. Since
then she has taught vocal music in Cambridge, Wisconsin; preschool music in
Salisbury, Rhodesia; and served as Choir Director at Memorial UMC. While Sue
was raising her three children, Scott, Jeff, and Lisa, she was a substitute
music teacher in several public school systems.
Her family also contributes to the church. The children have shared their
talents (trumpet, trombone, and flute, respectively) to Our Lord's on many
occasions.
Her husband, Phil, is a civil engineer by day and a bass/tenor/guitar player the
rest of the time! He's her indispensable partner as he helps with sound, light,
and dramatic effects.
Susan also teaches piano in her home and sings in the Bel Canto Chorus where she
is featured in the Choral Artists, the smaller professional core of the chorus.
She enjoys traveling with Bel Canto and has performed in Eastern Europe, at the
Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, and at Carnegie Hall in New York.
She became a full time staff person in July of 2000 when she took on the
bookkeeping responsibilities of Assistant Treasurer. She enjoys the variety of
wearing a few hats, and loves to count, whether it is music or money! Sue feels
her ministry is to encourage individuals to become involved in the life of the
church by contributing their musical talents. With the help of the choirs, she
hopes to provide meaningful worship experiences for the congregation as well as
the musicians.
