NEW THIS MONTH: Happy New Year!
There are many opportunities to share Christ’s love and healing grace this month. Remember, the call of CHAO is to look through the opportunities prayerfully to discern how God is calling you to act. Each one of us can do something, but we are not expected to do everything. See how the spirit leads you this month.
Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will begin the month of January with a collection of women’s cotton bikini underwear sizes small through 3X as well as travel-sized bath “kits” to benefit clients of Cathedral Center. There will be several giving options to help the center:
U.S. Grant Elementary School Winter Gear Collection via Beau Veit and Family will be ongoing throughout January in order for delivery to happen on Valentine’s Day. You can give directly through Venmo @VeitLearningFLS or through Paypal @VLASamVeit or send/give Sam a check. Cash works great too! This is always a joyous project for all involved.
Friday Bible Study beginning January 10 at 10:30 -11:30 a.m. invites you to participate! A timely three-week study entitled, “What Does the Bible Say About Immigration?” written by Jenny Yang and Bri Stenstrud from the organization Women of Welcome will be meeting in the Wesley room (unless otherwise designated). Mary Schulz will be the study facilitator. In order to have materials ready for you, please register by Tuesday, January 6 by signing up in the Narthex, emailing the church office at [email protected], or letting Mary Schulz know.

~ Continue to pray for Gaza, Israel, and Ukraine. War becomes old news to folks far away from conflict, but continues to be devastating for those directly impacted. Go to www.umcjustice.org to learn how to contact your legislators concerning issues of peace with justice.
~ ~ Have you received your copy of Our Lord’s Breakthrough Prayer? Challenge yourself to pray this prayer daily as we continue to seek God’s direction during this stewardship season.
“Holy God, quiet our thoughts and open us to carefully listen, with hope. Create willingness toward action that rebuilds the church. Use our time, talent, and financial resources to draw in others. Inspire us, through worship and prayer, to love in ways that extend and expand the possibilities for ALL to do something, on the path before us. Let it be so.”
~ (Reuse) B.Y.O.C.C. – Bring Your Own Coffee Cup on Sundays for fellowship. Fill it, enjoy it, use it as an ice breaker in getting acquainted, take it home, wash it, reuse it, or change it up!
Upon this Earth and located on the ancestral homeland

Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will begin the month of January with a collection of women’s cotton bikini underwear sizes small through 3X as well as travel-sized bath “kits” to benefit clients of Cathedral Center. There will be several giving options to help the center:
- Shop sales for underwear and/ or bath “kits” consisting of travel size (about 100 ml) shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and bar soap. Both Walmart and Dollar Tree offer options for these bath items. Unopened bath items from your own travels are welcome. The need is for basic bath/shower items so leave bath bombs and other spa items at home. Bring your items to church and place them in the cupboard in the Narthex marked “Sunday Undies and Bath Items” beginning January 5.
- Donate through Cathedral Center’s Amazon Wish List. Options for these items are found there marked with Highest Priority. This is an efficient, safe way to donate, and the items are delivered directly to the Cathedral Center. Shipping is included. See the links listed here in CHAO under Ongoing Items.
- Bring your items to church on Monday morning, January 20, between 8:30 a.m. and noon for a drive-through collection. No need to get out of your car! The items will be delivered directly to Cathedral Center on Monday afternoon.
